Women in the work place has been an issue that has been
around for a very long time. Gender segregation was an issue that was prevalent
in the 1700’s to sometime midway through the 1800’s. Over time, women have been
granted different right from voting to be being able to have an equal
opportunity in the work place. Women working in jobs that are not the “norm”
has caused some issues regarding equality.
In a recent article posted on The New Indian Express, male
candidates get a higher priority over females regardless of how they are doing
in academics [1]. This proves the point that women in the working field get a
lesser opportunity compared to men in the work force. Women have been
struggling to find work in chemical engineering and other technology/science
based jobs. This is because it is not stereotypical for women to be in jobs
regarding those fields. These stereotypes are exemplified though media such as
tv shows, news, and statistics put on the web.
Women should be
accepted in all fields even ones that they are not generally in. They deserve
equal pay in any job regardless of stereotypes. Hopefully in the future they
are accepted in non-stereotypical positions.
